Expanding STEM Learning Beyond the Classroom
NASA has awarded more than $5 million to 29 institutions nationwide to expand science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning through informal education networks. The funding supports partnerships with libraries, after-school programs, museums, and youth-serving organizations to provide sustainable, hands-on learning experiences designed to inspire future innovators.
The awards are part of NASA’s TEAM II (Teams Engaging Affiliated Museums and Informal Institutions) program, administered through the agency’s Office of STEM Engagement. The initiative includes two categories.
STEM Innovator Awards establish regional hubs to expand informal STEM programming, and
Community Anchor Awards support locally driven projects that connect communities to NASA’s missions and career pathways.
Eighteen institutions were selected as STEM Innovators, receiving nearly $4.5 million to advance regional STEM engagement efforts. An additional 11 institutions received Community Anchor grants totaling more than $547,000 to strengthen local access to NASA-related programming.
Funded through NASA’s Next Generation STEM project, the awards aim to ignite curiosity and build skills aligned with aerospace and advanced technology careers. By extending STEM engagement beyond traditional classrooms, NASA seeks to strengthen early exposure to career pathways and expand participation in innovation-driven fields.
